CASE STUDY: ELECTIONS
The Importance of Data & Targeting

The Background:
Sheriff Gary Cutler (Hays County, TX) faced a tough reelection bid in a county that was rapidly turning from red to blue. Sheriff Cutler needed to persuade and turnout general-election-only voters as well as some Democrat voters to vote across the aisle.

The Plan:
The Majority Strategies team turned to our data to identify and target a key audience of generalelection-only independent voters with persuasion and turnout messaging. Texans do not register by party so primary vote history was critical. Creative and messaging were aimed at both persuasion and turnout.

The Solutions:
Majority Strategies used data to identify the key target audience of approximately 35,000 voters to reach via a robust, roughly two-month-long digital advertising plan, including video, coupled with direct mail and collateral materials for grassroots efforts. The digital campaign alone delivered nearly 321,000 impressions, including more than 57,700 video impressions.

The Results:
Sheriff Cutler received more votes than any Republican on the ballot, including the President, and secured reelection when other incumbent Republicans lost, including two other Republicans running for reelection in countywide seats.

Our client saw an 8.5% uplift in turnout (from an expected 97,100 voters to 105,400).
